We all know that happy customers are your best advertisers. If people like you and like what you do, they will tell their friends.
Lesson #1 What is Word of Mouth Marketing?
(1) Giving reasons to talk about you
(2) Making it easier for the conversations to take place.
It’s C to C marketing when a consumer tells another consumer about you. When it comes out of the mouth of a marketer, its B to C marketing—but when a real person repeats it, then it becomes word of mouth.
Lesson #2 Four Rules of Word of Mouth
(1) Be interesting
Nobody talks about boring companies, products or ads. Everyone can be interesting. Before you run an ad or launch a product, ask your spouse about it. If he or she finds it interesting, you’ve probably got a winner.
(2) Make people happy
Create amazing product. Provide excellent service. Go the extra mile. Make sure the work you do gets people energized, excited and eager to tell a friend.
(3) Earn trust and respect
Nobody talks about a company that they don’t like or trust. Earn the respect of your customers. Be honest and good to them. Talk with them, fulfill their needs and honor their intelligence.
(4) Make it easy
Find a simple topic that is easy to repeat. Forget the brand statement, the product description or the “elevator pitch.” What can people tell a friend about you in one sentence? Then do everything you can to make it easy to share that topic.
